Our remit
Junglewondergadget is an independent informative website about digital tools in museum conservation, with a particular focus on AI-assisted reconstruction. We write for curious museum visitors, students and early-career conservators who want clear explanations without software spectacle.
We follow a simple distinction throughout: observed evidence comes from examination and recording; model suggestions introduce possibilities; specialist decisions assess what those possibilities justify. Keeping these categories separate helps readers appreciate digital tools without mistaking them for a route around historical uncertainty.
How we explain the work
Our guides begin with an object's condition and a research question, not a product recommendation. We discuss capture, reconstruction, validation and documentation as connected but distinct activities. Where a method depends on an assumption, we name it. Where a conclusion requires independent evidence, we say so.
Links to professional organisations, standards and collection resources are starting points for further reading. They do not imply endorsement, partnership or institutional review of our articles. We are not affiliated with the museums, research bodies or professional organisations discussed.
What these pages are not
This website does not provide conservation treatment services, object authentication, valuations or instructions for physically repairing historical material. An explanation of a technique is not a recommendation to use it on an object. Qualified professionals should assess fragile or culturally significant items in their actual context.
Photographs illustrate materials, handling and documentation themes. Unless explicitly identified otherwise, they are not evidence of a particular research project and should not be read as before-and-after treatment records.
Corrections and thoughtful disagreement
A transparent record should remain open to revision. If you find an inaccurate technical description, an unclear distinction or a source that no longer supports a claim, please send the page address, the relevant passage and a supporting reference through our editorial contact page.
We welcome well-supported challenges to interpretation. We do not promise that every suggested change will be adopted or that every message will receive a reply. Our aim is to make the published explanation clearer and more accountable.
Start with the surviving surface
